Sugar Falls

In Sugar Falls: A Residential School Story, Robertson and Henderson present the idea that fiction elements make the reader feel more interested in the story and are sympathetic for first nation people, also show for the reader what first nation people had to endure.

Let’s talk about flashback first. The main flashback is Kokum flashbacks to when she was a kid and tells of the residential school. She had already said “When I was very young, around the age of five” after that, she said, ” Looking back, I do not know what hurt more”. This is the most important fiction element of the story.

Another fiction element is omniscient: This story is base on the real story. Betty is a victim of a residential school and she is a person who wants to share what has happened in the residential school. She is a survivor in this school but it also has a lot of different perspectives from other characters.

The Conflicts

Recently, I’m meeting a trouble with my sister (I mean…not my real sister, she is my close friend but she older than me). I want to share with you guys my story about my first conflict with my close friend.

Two days ago like a typical day, we are going to play cards after school in the lunch room. Usually, I’m really easy to get upset when I lose a game card, and I accidentally scolded her.At that time i think this is not too serious to have a conflict because it is used to happening many time in the past but she hasn’t said anything about my bad attitude.

In the following day, I realize that she is trying to avoid me, she doesn’t talk with me, doesn’t eat lunch with me, and doesn’t go home with me. I don’t know why she do that, i ask her that why she avoid me but she didn’t answer my question, she keeps silent and go away from me. I think i was confused at that time because i don’t know the reason. Yesterday, after three days we conflict each others, I spent all my courage to ask her, but she said nothing. However, for a long time I tried to find the answer, she had said her feeling with me.

Finally, I knew the reason, and we stopped fight with each other. This is a good experience for us to understand each other more. I think in a relationship, we must respect and understand each other to avoid any misunderstandings that lead to conflicts.

What is family and what does family mean to yourself?

In my opinion, family is a group of parents and children living together in a house. Family can also be included your grandparents and your cousin ( it’s called a big family). Family is all of members in the family are respectful each other and take care of each other.

I will tell you guys some information about my family. I’m a third child in my family, I have two brother and one young sister. The relationship between me and family are quite well. I can’t say i have a good relationship with my family but it might be better than other family i have met. Sometime we fight with each other because of some problems, and it takes a long time to make peace with each other. However, it is not so bad, we just can’t understand each other. Sometime I feel very bad about our relationship and no one want to be a loser in a fighting.Believing me, everything takes time, so just try to understand each other day by day. The relationship will become better if you try hard to understand each other. That is all of the things i want to talk to you guys. Thank you to read my blog!

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
